Exit & Exempla

Years running:
Country: Italy
Description:
Recorthings is a cassette series self-published by artist Maurizio Nannucci, internationally well-known for his neon works, but from the 60's also active in concrete and sound-poetry, and as curator of exhibitions and record releases about artists' audioworks (d.i.s.c.o.t.h.e.q.u.e., Murs du Son, etc). In 1978 he was the first one to publish in Italy some poems by american poet Robert Lax (1915 - 2000) with his imprint Zona, and he invited him over to read in Firenze.
Lax, whom Jack Kerouac called "one of the great original voices of our times ...a Pilgrim in search of beautiful innocence" had become a solitary on the island of Patmos from 1964, yet he periodically came back to society, not wishing to become a "full-fledged" hermit ("That sounds to me like too much of a professional, too self-conscious a thing to do", he told author Peter France for his "Hermits: The Insights of Solitude"). Sea & Sky/Black & White are his only published readings.
